Common Q&A

What do we wear?

When it comes to portrait photography, clothing plays a huge role in the success of the finished product. Wear what feels good during your shoot; you may be sitting in the grass having a tickle battle, rolling down a hill with your loved ones, throwing your kids in the air, or climbing a tree. Wear clothing that lets you do all of that (and more) comfortably. Browse the internet. Check out some of the stores you purchase clothing from regularly and work your way around. Most sites will have a section that displays complete outfits. Choose one staple item you love (your favorite flattering shirt or your daughters new dress that she looks adorable in) and work your way from there.

What NOT to wear...

Fancy-schmancy if it’s your thing… and it’s really your thing, then by all means, go for it! If you’re not normally a dress-up kind of person, don’t feel like you have to be one for your session. Don’t stress about everyone matching. Coordinating, yes…matching, no. And the kids? Well… uncomfortable kids have a tendency to look uncomfortable. Happy kids make for happy pictures. I am here to help. We will narrow down what you really want for your pictures. Choose the perfect location and make sure you have an understanding about how it all comes together in the finished photograph. I’m with you every step of the way. If you’re still not certain, bring a variety of clothing options. When we get to the session we’ll put it all together to create something awesome.

When/How do I book my session?

It’s never “too early” to book a session. I would suggest 4-6 weeks for a weekend session and 2-3 weeks for a weekday session. If you are interested in a newborn session, I will pencil you in around your due date (or induction date) which will leave room in my schedule so we can book within the first 10 days after the baby is born.

To book: Fill out the Contact form with the desired photoshoot dates and times. Typically, sessions are held in the late afternoon or early morning for optimal lighting but we can schedule a time that will be best for you/your child(ren).

During your session, we will have all sorts of fun. You can expect the session to last anywhere from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours (with the exception of newborn sessions which will run closer to 2 hours). Depending on our location, I will want to capture wandering play, intimate laughter and sweet, candid shots. Don’t prep the kids for a photo session… tell them they are off to a play-date with Katie.

Please give at least 48 hours notice if you need to postpone your session. Please do not hesitate to reschedule if your child is sick.
